Liaison Ranger Meeting 5th March 2007

Any Rangers are welcome to come along to these meetings provided you are prepared to be subjected to my authoritarian, almost brutal, chairmanship as I like to be home by 10 for ER. Next one is April 2nd.

BBC Radio York

A busy week as I was contacted by Sustrans on Friday as BBC Radio York was having its own  sustainable transport week.  At very short notice Sarah Mustill agreed to be interviewed during her commute from Riccall.  I didn't get to hear it but the producer said she was "a star".  I also did an interview on Tuesday morning.  I didn't get to hear that either but Ken seems to think we got the message across.

Featured Ride Selby York

The York Selby route also got a mention in the Guardian's Saturday guide to cycle routes and Sustrans want to include it as a featured ride in the supporters magazine - in the meantime look out for in article about the last month's work day.  As the section is 20 years old this year we need to get it -- and in particular the Maze -- ready for bike week. So hope to see a lot of you out there on Saturday.

Route 71

Brian and Tony have been busy finalising the details in agreement with Sustrans and North Yorkshire county council.  They are hoping to get it signed by Easter.  After which  the route will need testing.  Anyone wanting to join Graham Cookman and maybe me as a route 71 virgins, look out for a further details.

The North Yorkshire Network

Sustrans have asked us to include Harrogate and Scarborough in the network so look out for news and information from them in the next issue.

March Workdays

Route 66 had two days bramble bashing.  Olwen and Peter will be talking to St Nicolas fields to agree a more strategic approach

Route  65 South - 10th March

Continuing work on the maze this Saturday 1030. Note that April clashes with the signing ride so we will be back at the maze on the 21st – but back to the regular slot  in May.

Route  65 North  - 17th March

Ken will be organising a ride from Clifton to see what needs doing.  In the meantime Peter will be talking to Dave Jackson about possible improvements to the section by the river.

Pedalling picnics - marshals needed

We have decided to  organise three Pedalling Picnics during bike week.  One going south on Sunday the 17th June  will be the re-opening of the maze and one North the following weekend will head towards Benningbrough.  Route 66 to the farming museum and beyond will be on the Wednesday. We will need lots of marshals for the busy sections and lifting trailer bikes over barriers.  Radio York was particularly fascinated by this concept and wants to do another set of interviews.

Signing rides 14/15 April

Brian will be leading her signing ride from  Osmotherley/Northallerton back to York on the Saturday.  Definitely for the fitter cyclist but you can always join for a section.  On the Sunday Ken will be heading out to Market Weighton.  Pubs and/or tea rooms will feature.

Cycle magic at Railway   Museum   5-6-7 May

We need lots more  volunteers to staff the Sustrans stand at this event.  Should be fun. Please contact me with offers of help and preferred days and times.  Three or four hours will pass in a flash and then you can go up on the wheel.
